interactive retro kitchen VR experience
The challenge
100 YEARS OF HOMESICKNESS
HSB is Sweden’s largest housing cooperative, with 1 in 10 Swedes living in an HSB accommodation. The cooperative celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2023, and to commemorate this occasion, they went on a country wide tour with a mobile expo truck to meet their tenants in their hometowns.
The purpose was to celebrate HSBs journey over this century, the improvements in living standards spear-headed by HSB, and to show the latest innovative solutions – all in order to emphasize on HSBs dedication to thoughtfully designed living spaces within society.
The challenge was to fit everything into an exhibition trailer. In order to show things that no longer exist, the challenge was to built an exact replica of a kitchen from 1923 in VR. Down to the minute details, everything in the VR kitchen is historically correct and interactive – it’s the closest thing to time travel on offer today
the solution
TIME TRAVEL AS A SERVICE
Use 21st-century technology to engage with life 100 years ago.
Relying on considerable R&D, a highly immersive experience was created that could easily travel along with the roadshow. From the studding levels of detail in the rag-rug on the wooden floors, to the nostalgic sounds emanating from the 1920’s radio, to picking-up and flipping through a century-old housing magazine, visitors enveloped themselves in the history and impact of HSB – all while standing in a trailer set-up in the parking lot outside their hardware store.
These intricate details were then translated into an interactive VR experience enabling people to see for themselves how much things have, and haven’t, changed over the last 100 years.

FROM YOUNG TO OLD
Angelica Sandgren, Brand ManagerEveryone has been excited about the VR station – from young to old. It has been incredibly successful in showing off the details of the old kitchen and in strengthening our overall brand. We have had a wonderful collaboration and look forward to creating new projects with Frank Valiant.
