The challenge
a unique value proposition
Maersk Drilling had one of the youngest and most technologically advanced fleets of offshore drilling rigs on the market. However, drilling rigs are in a highly competitive landscape where procurement was historically based on daily rates alone.
Maersk wanted to showcase their unique value – including their rigs’ safety and sustainability features – rather than just talking about price, but it was not possible to bring potential customers off-shore to adequately demonstrate these. In fact, even most Maersk Drilling employees haven’t even set foot on one of their own products.
The challenge was to help Maersk effectively demonstrate their unique value proposition – and to increase their sales and margins.

The solution was to bring offshore on-shore. We created a highly immersive experience that shows how Maersk delivers value that others cannot.
After considerable R&D , three rig types were digitally built. The Frank Valiant team visited docked rigs for lidar scanning, reference photos, and CAD corrections. The Maersk Operations teams worked very closely with Frank Valiant artists to ensure accuracy of the digital twins down to the most minute details.
These digital rigs were then transformed into an interactive VR experience with a focus on telling the story of value and showing the solutions in a manner customers would react to.

The final project was initially aimed only to be used in sales sessions by the commercial frontline, but the experience was so accurate and engaging, it was also used for events, HSE training, onboarding of new employees, and government lobbying.
